Launch the Screen Saver Settings applet, click Settings and there's an option to turn off the audio. If that's just too much, there is one way to cut the Christmas overload. On launch the screensaver displays a snowy winter scene, with children playing, Santa passing through on his sleigh, animated animals, a snowman, tweeting birds, a barking dog, a rabbit in a Santa hat, a squirrel with a candy cane, floating "Merry Christmas" and "Happy New Year" messages, and after a brief pause, the seasonal sounds of a young child singing "Little Snowflake". ![]() Installation is simple, and apart from opening a browser window at the developer's site post-setup we didn't notice any marketing. Just download it, run the executable to apply its wintry effects, and delete the file when and if you've had enough.Christmas Suite Screensaver is a free screensaver which comes packed with more Christmas and winter themes than you could ever possibly imagine. ![]() DesktopSnowOK is portable, though, so perfect if, say, you'd simply like to add a little temporary Christmas cheer to your desktop. If you're thinking this isn't exactly the most useful program ever, then you've probably got a point. Leave your PC for a while and the snow will start to fall come back, start typing or moving the mouse and the flakes will disappear again. You can also choose the number of flakes you'd like on screen at any one time, their transparency, and how quickly they should fall.Īnd while DesktopSnowOK isn't a Windows screen saver, you can produce a similar result by setting "Deactivation" to "If pressing a key or mouse events". And a host of other options (soccer balls, base balls, tennis balls and more) ensure the program will be useful - if that word really applies here - all year long.
